During the 2025 IA Summit, Madrona Partner Jon Turow hosted Parag Agrawal (of ‪@parallelwebsystems‬ ) and Nikita Shamgunov (of Neon and now ‪@Databricks‬) for a discussion titled The Stack and The Agents — Building and Scaling Together.

A few themes that stood out from their discussion:
1) Strategic bets under uncertainty: Nikita’s pivot of Neon around agent-led demand, and Parag’s decision to build a brand-new search index for machines.
2) What actually changes under the hood: from MCP server requirements to rethinking how web infrastructure works when the “user” is an AI.
3) The team you build is the company you build: in both stories, the speed and conviction of execution came down to who they brought into the room, and how they aligned them around a fast-moving opportunity.

The stack and the agents are evolving together. And it’s happening faster than most people think.
