The extrusion unit is the core of the line, where high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) resin—melted at 180-220℃ in an extruder—are uniformly extruded onto the pre-treated pipe surface. Key components here include:
Single-Screw or Twin-Screw Extruder: Designed to melt, mix, and convey PE resin with consistent viscosity, ensuring uniform coating thickness.
Crosshead Die: A specialized die that wraps the molten PE around the moving pipe in a seamless, continuous layer. The die’s design is tailored to the pipe’s diameter (ranging from 16mm to 800mm or more) to maintain coating uniformity.

PE is inherently resistant to moisture, chemicals (acids, alkalis, salts), and soil bacteria—common causes of metal pipe corrosion. The seamless, dense PE coating acts as a physical barrier, isolating the metal pipe from corrosive environments (e.g., underground soil, seawater, chemical media) and extending the pipe’s service life from 10-15 years (uncoated) to 30-50 years (coated).

For applications like oil/gas transmission or electrical conduit pipes, the PE coating provides exceptional electrical insulation (dielectric strength ≥20kV/mm) and thermal insulation. This prevents electrochemical corrosion (caused by current leakage) and reduces heat loss, improving energy efficiency in pipeline operations.

Extruded PE coatings are flexible (elongation at break ≥300%) and impact-resistant, enabling coated pipes to withstand transportation, installation, and soil settlement without cracking. The coating also exhibits high abrasion resistance, protecting the pipe from damage during burial or handling.
