In this SQL exercise, we retrieve artist_id and artwork_id from the sales table and calculate the number of times the French artists were invited during the contest using a scalar subquery with an aggregate function.
Two approaches are demonstrated:
1. Using the same single-row, single-column subquery in two WHERE clauses to find the country_id for France.
2. Using a local variable to store the country_id and reuse it in both the SELECT and WHERE clauses for cleaner and more efficient queries.
This exercise demonstrates how to embed nested subqueries, calculate aggregated values, and optimize queries with local variables.
