Highlights of the Climate and Ecological Emergency (CEE) virtual event: Nov 2020

'The CEE Bill in a year til COP'
This event explores how the CEE Bill is the emergency strategy needed to avert climate and ecological catastrophe and one that can determine the pathway for the UK to play its fair contribution in limiting global temperature increase to 1.5°C.
Learn about the CEE Bill and how it has potential to reboot current climate and environmental legislation with the best science to date and the promotion of deliberative democratic decision-making with the inclusion of a citizens’ assembly.

The panellists in this Part 1 of 'The CEE Bill in a year til COP' address the following themes:
1. Setting the context, introducing the speakers and a mention on Peers for the Planet- Baroness Boycott
2. An introduction to the CEE Bill and the imperative to address climate and ecology holistically and to engage the full strata of civil society to decide on how we achieve a just transition to a low carbon, nature-thriving socio-economy - Caroline Lucas MP
3. Why we need to make the CEE Bill UK legislation and a COP26 blueprint that the UK Government as the CEE Bill's first state advocate can present to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, (UNFCCC-COP26) in Glasgow, November 2021 to inspire and broker groundbreaking negotiations in pushing Paris Agreement signatories to commit to their most ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions to date, to reduce their own national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

The event is chaired by Baroness Boycott, Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords and formally chair of The London Food Board, and includes guest speakers -

Caroline Lucas, the Green Party’s first MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Climate Change, a member of Parliament's Environmental Audit Committee

Tim Jackson is Director of the Centre for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity and Professor of Sustainable Development at the University of Surrey. Between 2004 and 2011, Tim was Economics Commissioner on the UK Sustainable Development Commission, where his work culminated in the publication of his groundbreaking book Prosperity without Growth. In 2016, Tim was awarded the Hillary Laureate for exceptional international leadership in sustainability. In addition to his academic work, Tim is an award-winning dramatist.

Kate Raworth, an economist, whose Doughnut Economics focuses on making economics fit for the 21st century; Kate is also co-founder of the Economics Action Lab

Kumi Naidoo, life-long social justice campaigner, former ninth Secretary General of Amnesty International and former Executive Director of Greenpeace International. Kumi’s most recent role has been as a co-founder and interim chair of the pan-African organization, Africans Rising.
