Josephine Akia Luyimbazi is the Country Coordinator of PELUM Uganda, a role she has held since October 2021 after serving as the organization’s Head of Programs from 2013. With a career rooted in advocacy, gender justice, and sustainable agriculture, Josephine has played a pivotal role in shaping Uganda’s agroecology and organic movement. She previously led policy and advocacy at the National Organic Agriculture Movement of Uganda (NOGAMU), where she contributed significantly to the development of Uganda’s National Organic Agriculture Policy and spearheaded campaigns against GMOs. Her career began at CEEWA-Uganda, where she worked on projects focusing on gender and economic empowerment, laying the foundation for her enduring commitment to social justice. Josephine holds a Master of Science in Agroecology, in which she was among the pioneer graduates from Uganda Martyrs University, and is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in International Development. Her leadership at PELUM Uganda is marked by deep mentorship, strategic vision, and a commitment to strengthening agroecology systems through community-led seed sovereignty, indigenous knowledge, and inclusive policy advocacy. A mother of five and a firm believer in food justice, Josephine’s life and work are shaped by personal loss, resilience, and a deep reverence for nature and culture.
