The prosecution in the OJ Simpson trial Tuesday said genetic tests showed the blood of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman was found inside OJ Simpson's Bronco.

The statements came during a hearing outside the presence of the jury.

The rest of the day was taken up by DNA expert Robin Cotton, who lectured the court on DNA testing for a second day.

Two heated hearings in the OJ Simpson case overshadowed the testimony heard for the second day from DNA expert Robin Cotton.

In one came a startling revelation from the prosecution - one stain on the Bronco's steering wheel probably contained D-N-A from someone unrelated to the case.

SOUNDBITE:
"Frankly that stain is a little bit different than the others as well because while consistent with Mr. Simpson there's obviously another contributor that's not directly related or may not be directly related to this case on the steering wheel, so that one is slightly different from the other mixtures as well in this case."

During the hearing, Clark said blood found on the steering wheel of Simpson's Ford Bronco may have contained D-N-A from somebody not directly related to the case.

Prosecutors also disclosed that the same stain contained Simpson's genetic material and that of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

During a second hearing, prosecutor Rocke Harmon said blood found on the glove at the Simpson estate was a mixture of the defendant's blood and that of the victims, as was the blood on Ron Goldman's shoe.

The defence doesn't want prosecutors to introduce the evidence without statistical information to back it up.

Judge Ito said he would rule later.

"The likelyhood of confusing the jury and leading them to infer that that match has the same power as the match just above it is extraordinary and in the example I gave your honour, the percentage of the population which would not be excluded by that mixed stain profile on the steering wheel, is a about 38 percent of the population. Now that's a far cry just on a gut level from the kind of power we attribute to D-N-A testing. And that's why if Barney says you have to give a statistic, that's why the N-R-C- say you have to give a statistic and frankly that's why I believe you said it was your decision last month."

It was another day of testimony from DNA expert Robin Cotton - director of Cellmark Diagnostics in Maryland.

Most of the morning was dedicated to P-C-R - a method for duplication of small samples of DNA.

The prosecution hopes a key response from Cotton will help convince jurors that DNA evidence is reliable.

"There is no environmental force, there is no environmental effect that can work to simply change one type and make it become another you may lose the type all together, you may degrade the D-N-A so much that you can't type it but won't just change types from one to another it doesn't happen."

The trial ended with jurors taking a look at a DNA banding pattern.

Cotton will take the stand again Wednesday.
