Although Ship lived his life wandering the streets, he wasn’t truly prepared for what was to come next in his life.

Our awesome rescue partners found this sweet boy living his life outside. They were able to leash him and bring him into love and safety. When we brought this five-year-old boy to the vet, we received the worst news. Poor Ship is suffering from severe Heartworm which is now congestive heart failure. This pup’s belly is full of fluid and he has a broken bone on his left arm and a dislocated hip/leg. This little guy has been suffering and we are so thankful we are by his side at this time.

Ship received radiographs and about five pounds of fluid was drained from his abdomen. He was placed in critical care to see if he is able to survive. After an echocardiogram, the best course of action will be treating Ship with the slow-kill method – 1 Heartguard chewable/month. Given the swelling in his heart caused by the Heartworm, a miticide treatment would not be best for him.

This sweet and tender soul will need a foster who can monitor him for any changes that would be caused by Heartworm, such as his belly filling with fluid, lethargy, and not eating.
