The following video shows the Seattle CARE Department's Seattle 9-1-1 Center November 15th cohort of new Call Takers, who are on the last leg of their onboarding with the Training Unit.

Since starting on November 15th, this cohort of seven 9-1-1 Call Takers has been learning and practicing their new trade in the Training Classroom at the Seattle 9-1-1 Center, located in the Seattle Police Department West Precinct.

During their 4-weeks in the Training Classroom, Call Takers learn policies and procedures and how to use computer programs, such as the Computer Aided Dispatch or CAD.

After completing the Training Classroom, Call Takers move to the main floor of the 9-1-1 Center, where they will screen community calls, determine their priority levels and route calls to 9-1-1 dispatchers, who in turn dispatch Seattle Police Department and transfer any medical or fire-related community generated calls to Seattle Fire Department. In addition, Call Takers facilitate non-emergency calls from the community.

After completing 12-weeks of onboarding, Call Takers will be evaluated by a supervisor to take calls by themselves, before working independently.
