We are excited to present The Canoe Community of Practice Call, hosted by CAAN: Communities, Alliances & Networks in partnership with the Dr. Peter Centre. This session, titled “Navigating MMIP & Indigenous Healing through Harm Reduction,” features Ashleigh Cardinal.

Ashleigh is from Whitefish Lake First Nation #128 and is a proud Two-Spirit artist, community leader, and advocate in recovery. Her work focuses on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP), cultural resurgence, and harm reduction. As Vice-Chair of the Premier’s Council for MMIWG2S+ and Co-Chair of the Edmonton 2-Spirit Society, Ashleigh brings powerful lived experience and deep community knowledge to this important conversation. This session will explore:
The link between colonial trauma, MMIP, and substance use
Harm reduction as a culturally relevant, life-affirming approach
2SLGBTQQIA+ inclusion in Indigenous communities
Indigenous self-determination in healing and prevention
