I received a rough sketch with some dimensions of a proposed bathroom vanity via email requesting a quote for it to be built out of maple and stained a brownish colour. I reworked the drawing on computer, keeping all the dimensions but putting it in a format that was easier to look at. I had three sample doors made in three styles the customer had requested. I had two made from Maple and one made from Walnut as the stains they picked for the Maple was similar to the natural colour of walnut. I stained the Maple doors and lacquered all three samples and paid a visit to the customer to see which one they liked best and to discuss any questions they had.

I had thrown in the Walnut sample in as a surprise as it was never discussed but seeing what stains they were leaning towards it was not a far stretch in knowing they would like the Walnut. In fact, they loved the rich, luxurious look of the walnut and the Maple samples were barely even looked at. They contracted me to build their vanity to their specified dimensions as they were having the granite counter top fabricated to those dimensions by another company at the same time.

As I was building the vanity, I would e-mail updates to the customer with pictures of my progress. There is a trust factor that I am appreciative of between the customer and the contractor and I attempt to put at ease the customer during the fabrication phase.

When it came time for installation, I had a slight case of nerves as generally countertops are measured for fabrication after the cabinet boxes have been made so I had to have had the measurements and cuts exact or the countertop (that I did not see until installation) would not fit. As soon as I placed the counter top on top of cabinet and saw the fit I was instantly happy and it worked out very well.
