In June last year we took a look at the progress of the Port Regeneration (link to that video at the end of this one), and this year we went back to see the results. What a difference a year makes!

The new Marina Pier is finished and open to the public. At 515 metres long it's a bit of a hike for some people to reach the seating at the far end, so requests have been made for more seating to be provided at regular intervals. The pier skirts the new Curve Marina which allows for more moorings at the port. Further down, there is the new Navigation Channel and lifting bridge, which will give new access to the Wellington Dock (where yachts are currently moored). The old access, with a swing bridge, will eventually be closed off and filled in.


Two new berths have been created for the new cargo terminal. This was previously based on the eastern side of the port and has been moved to the western side to free up space for new ferry berths. The new cargo terminal includes two new harbour cranes. These Konecranes Gottwald model 5 mobile, eco-efficient diesel-electric cranes will handle container and palletised fruit cargo. They have a maximum lifting capacity of 125t and an outreach of 51m. To process all this cargo, a new refrigerated warehouse has been built, with solar panels for more efficiency.

Due for completion in September 2019, this £250m project will hopefully take the Port of Dover into the future.
