India's first snow leopard conservation center in Uttarakhand | Uttarkashi | Gangotri national park

Uttarakhand is set to open the country's first snow leopard conservation center.
The project aims at protection and propagation of the species in higher reaches of the hill state which happens to be the natural habitat of the elusive big cat.
The center will be built at the entry point of Gangotri National Park above 2800 meters sea level.
However, no time limit has been set for the project. It will be built under central government scheme 'SECURE Himalaya'.

हाल ही में आई.यू.सी.एन. द्वारा हिम तेंदुए की संरक्षण स्थिति में सुधार किया गया है। इसकी संरक्षण स्थिति को ‘लुप्तप्राय’ से ‘कमज़ोर’ श्रेणी में तब्दील किया गया है। इस निर्णय को आई.यू.सी.एन. (International Union for Conservation of Nature - IUCN) द्वारा ‘विलुप्त होने के जोखिम का आकलन करने के लिये वैश्विक मानक’ (Global Standard for Assessing Extinction risk) के अंतर्गत घोषित किया गया है।
