Karita Mattila performing "Wie nahte mir der Schlummer / Leise, leise, fromme Weise" from von Weber’s opera Der Freischütz during the finale of the first ever BBC Cardiff Singer Of The World competition in 1983.
The Finnish soprano went on to take the Main Prize, and has since become one of the most sought-after singers of our time.
