Progress to an advanced level of guitar playing - http://bulletproofguitarplayer.com The vintage voiced pickups in my Strat are great for clean and low-gain tones. But when used with high-gain lead patches, they create a really loud hum which is unusable for studio control rooms and on stage. So, I decided to rip them out and replace them with some DiMarzio pickups. In the bridge I have a Super Distortion - a single-coil sized humbucker that's great for smooth lead tones. In the neck and middle positions I've put in two DiMarzio Cruiser pickups, which are technically humbuckers but they're voiced to sound like fattened-up single coils. All of these pickups are hum-free too, which is a huge plus for me.
