We have an additional note to add to one of the questions asked during the Q & A session:
‘What other countries also have large areas of blanket bog?’

Found from the tropics to the poles, and in 175 countries, peatlands cover around 4 million km2 or 3% of the world land area. In Europe, peatlands extend to cover 515,000 km2.

There are three main types of peatland in the UK: blanket bogs, raised bogs and fens. In this mini-lesson, Jackie mentions the large areas covered by bogs in Estonia which are predominantly raised bog habitats. Other countries that have large areas of blanket bog include Canada and Russia.
