The Russian United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) tested its completely domestically-produced MS-21 medium-range aircraft in Siberia's Irkutsk on Tuesday.

Footage shows the aircraft completing a scheduled flight, after which spectators and aviators celebrated the shared success.

"Today, we can say with confidence that the Russian aviation industry is the only one in the world that can produce modern civil aircraft entirely on its own. Today, our main task is to successfully complete certification flights as soon as possible," PJSC United Aircraft Corporation Director General Vadim Badekha stated, adding that mass production of MS-21 was already underway.

Russian Industry and Trade Deputy Minister Gennadi Abramenkov noted that the MS-21 was already in high demand.

"UAC (PJSC United Aircraft Corporation) is negotiating with several airlines. They have been waiting for a medium-range aircraft for a long time," the politician noted.

Test pilot Andrei Voropayev also paid tribute to the plane.

"The aircraft is magnificent! Just look at it - it's a beauty," he said. "As our great designers used to say, 'A beautiful aircraft flies beautifully."

On April 29, a MS-21 prototype equipped with Russian-made systems and components performed its maiden flight from the Irkutsk Aviation Plant airfield, which lasted one hour and 15 minutes. The aircraft reached a speed of 580 kilometres per hour and reached an altitude of 3,000 metres.

The UAC plans to conduct about 220-230 test flights to ensure passenger safety.

According to Rostec, the MC-21 aircraft is advanced and comfortable, equipped with engines which provide low operating costs.
