Neil Young wrote this song shortly after moving to his ranch in California while he was still just a young man forging his way through the world and learning how to deal with success as a musician. It was written about the gentleman who was a caretaker on the ranch and after some conversations Neil decided to write this song for him. It eventually became a classic especially here in Canada and I've always loved it for the simplicity and wisdom it holds. A true gem of songwriting. I'm also coming up on turning 24 years old so it perhaps has more relevance now than ever in my life. He released it in 1972 on his now very famous album "Harvest" which all aspiring songwriters should have a copy of. I hope you enjoy my performance of this one.
