Police Case Filed Against Leena Manimekalai For Kaali Poster Controversy

Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai recently shared a poster of her documentary Kaali and it has made most of the Indians angry. The documentary’s poster shows a woman dressed as Goddess Kaali and smoking a cigarette. A flag of the LGBT community is seen in the background. The poster of the documentary is shared on social media by the Madurai-born filmmaker Leena Manimekalai. There was an uproar on social media for hurting religious sentiments with the depiction of Goddess Kaali. It has sparked controversies and even a police complaint was filed against filmmaker Not just the documentary, even Leena is facing irk from Indians on social media. Uttar Pradesh Police has lodged a First Information Report or FIR against director Leena Manimekalai for deliberately hurting religious sentimentsAn FIR was registered on July 4 at Hazratganj Police Station on charges of criminal conspiracy, offence in the place of worship, deliberately hurting religious sentiments and intention to provoke breach of peace against the filmmaker. Earlier, a lawyer from Delhi, Vineet Jindal, registered a complaint against the filmmaker over the controversial poster, demanding a ban on the objectionable photo and the clip from the documentary showcased at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada. Now, the Indian High Commission has issued an open letter on Monday and has asked the filmmaker and the Canadian authorities to remove “all provocative material”. They have asked for the removal of the poster from the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto in the North American nation. After the controversy, filmmaker Leena Manimekalai urged everyone to watch the documentary before commenting. The film revolves around the events that take place one evening, when Kali appears and strolls the streets of Toronto.
