Welcome to Rhodes, one of Greece’s most famous islands. Rhodes is located in the southeastern Aegean Sea. As the largest of the Dodecanese islands, Rhodes is known for its long history, dating back to ancient times.

The city of Rhodes is the island’s capital. It is is home to of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We start our evening tour near one of the most famous ancient landmarks of Rhodes - the Colossus of Rhodes. It was a massive statue of the sun god Helios that was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Soon we enter the old town which enclosed by thick stone walls. Compared to our other Rhodes walk (    • Rhodes, Greece 🇬🇷 - Old Town - 4K 60f...   ) we see a bit more of the walls. The old town features narrow streets, ancient buildings and impressive fortifications.

The city’s history is closely linked to the Knights of St. John, who controlled Rhodes island from 1309 to 1522. Back then they built many of its most notable structures, including the Palace of the Grand Master, which still stands today and which we will also pass. Though this palace was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BCE, it remains a symbol of the island.

Today, Rhodes has a population of about 115,000. Tourism is playing a major role in the local economy. The island’s warm climate and over 300 days of sunshine per year make it a popular destination for travelers. Even in October we see plenty of tourists enjoying this area. Rhodes is also one of the more affordable greek islands.

At last night has arrived and we get to exit the old town and end our tour.
