[NINE] The Sacred | GOOD OMENS

Will I ever write songs that fit my voice? Not today apparently. You just get to hear my voice crack like eighteen different times. I'm also uploading this from a phone just to hit February 14 because a storm hit and we don't have internet, only data.

Anyway, here is part one of the The Sacred and the Profane. If you know, you know. If you don't know what The Sacred and The Profane is (the fic, I mean), it's a very old reverse AU fic. In fact, one of the rare reverse AU fics and the most famous one, if only because it traumatized the whole fandom that no one could write a reverse AU fic without bursting into tears, or think about making one without bawling. In fact, to this day I've only ever read one other reverse AU fic and can't read anything else. And I can't ever call Aziraphale 'Zira', and I still go 'Oh yeah, Crowley's pre-Fall name is Caphriel' (still use that in my (unpublished) fics).

It's very tragic, and was written over the course of five years, I believe, but my god if I still don't immediately think of it as The Fic when someone says reverse AU.

This song isn't so much about Caphriel and Zira's love story as it is about how much of Zira's hatred shapes his character, and why that hatred is there in the first place - him questioning Heaven's decisions - and then how that hatred affects his relationship with Caphriel. Zira's always struck me as a selfish, apathetic character, even when he loves someone. The epitome of 'I don't love you, I'm just passing the time.'
