This is my updated version to teach a dog to HEEL (placing food on the ground instead of tossing it away). Always teach HEEL without a leash in a safe, fully enclosed location to allow your dog to choose to walk with you. Next, progress to using a 10-15ft leash in a more open space with as few distractions as you can manage. Finally, you can practice using a 6ft leash on walks to pass distractions or walk through tight or crowded spaces.
