Hi everyone! Still working on a few things we've noticed before we release a cleaned up demo. Most are related to UX and one of our #1 goals is to make sure the game is not just fun, but also easy (user wise) to play.

But otherwise the arena demo is playable! You can download it here to give it a go:

That said, I did some touch ups on the game after getting some great suggestions at the Convention last weekend. Some updates include:
Smoother cursor scrolling.
Improved settings system (it now saves properly).
Menu fixes and escape functionality for the world map.
Improved character inventory display to reduce menu clipping.
Fixed a bug I've been chasing for months now with offhand item equipping.
Lots of other small bugs, mostly with making sure units equip their weapons properly when they spawn.
NOTE: There is a bug I haven't figured out just yet with keyboard mapping. Any accented characters will crash the game if you try to remap them in the settings. This will be my #1 priority to fix on Wednesday, but it will be a doosy so I haven't been able to get to it just yet! Thankfully you can play the entire game for the most part with just a mouse.

So what is the arena in Lords of Nysera? Players of games like Fire Emblem probably know it as the "Arena Abuse" function where they can grind out battles at the risk of losing a character if things go south. I did away with that idea and instead implemented what I think is a much more interesting and fun system.

The arena is accessed through the world map menu no matter where the player is in the world. The Arena Guild is a far reaching organization that ensures a regulated and safe system for warriors to train and fight for glory! Units won't die in the arena, but if you lose be prepared to hand over a hefty sum of cash!

There are two types of arena battles, challenger groups and duels. Challenger groups can have anywhere from 2-12 units, while duels are always 1:1 battles. The duels still need a little balancing since the player always gets the first swing in. I'm thinking of possibly doing a "coin flip" type function to see who goes first.

Rewards are also quite variable. While there's the obvious bonus of training units and such, you can also earn money, find new recruits and occasionally get an item from unique arena battles.

And if you think you'd like a cool, custom team for players to fight then you're in luck! Custom arena battles are a reward for those who back the game now!
