This dreamlike and melancholic Japanese song is one of my favorite enka. The song was composed by Yoshida Tadashi (吉田正), and the lyrics was written by Saeki Takao (佐伯孝夫). Singer on this version is Miyoshi Eiji He is a Japanese enka singer and actor, born in 1954. The original song is sung by Hiroshi Kubo (1964). Peggy March has also done her own lovely version.
This is a fan made music video, originally loaded on my old YouYube channel (Teiska123) in January 2011. I've edited video clips from an old classic film. I dedicate this video to everyone, who have lost someone to "the mist".
"The mist" is a symbol of death (spirit world) or uncertainty. Sometimes, we don 't know why we lost someone, but some day we can face her or him again. Story tells that Siddhartha Gautama Buddha once drew a circle with a piece of red chalk and said, "When men, even unknowingly, are to meet one day, whatever may befall each, whatever the diverging paths, on the said day, they will inevitably come together in the red circle." So, we don't have to lose our hope...
The Japanese lyrics have been translated into English by Ari-san & Michiko-chan. Arigatou gozaimasu! Finnish translation is made by me (Teisuka).
Kiri no naka no syojyo
(The Girl in the Mist)
Namida hate nashi yuki yori shiroi
(There are no end to my tears, white as snow you are)
Hana yori shiroi kimi yue kanashi
(Even whiter than the flowers, oh poor pitiful you)
Aware syoo jyo yo kiri no naka no syoo jyo
(Oh pitiful girl, the girl in the mist)
Kiete kae ranu anoyo no machi kado
(You disappeared in the night street, and return no more)
Ima mo boku no kokoro no uchi ni iki teru kimi yo
(But you still live on in my mind)
Nokoru omo kage i da ki ha sure do
(The traces of you still lingers)
(Like fallen petals in a hopeless dream)
awa re shoujo yo kiri no naka no shoujo
(Oh pitiful girl, the girl in the mist)
hitome ai ta ya inochi o kake te mo
(I'd give up my life just to have one last look at you)
ima mo boku no kokoro no uchi ni iki teru kimi yo
(But you still live on in my heart)
Kiri wa koku naru namida wa afuru
(As the fog grows thicker, my eyes are brimming with tears)
Kono yo mo kimi wo yobi tsutsu fukeru
(And I call your name all through the night)
Aware syoo jyo yo kiri no naka no syoo jyo
(Oh poor, poor girl, girl in the mist)
Okure kota ete aishite imasu to
(Please answer to me that you still love me)
Itsu mo boku no kokoro no uchi ni iki teru kimi yo
(You are still alive in my mind)
