What is Lower GI Bleeding? Bleeding occurring in the large intestine or in the rectum anal canal, they are all are considered as lower GI Bleeding, wherein you have to search for the cause. There are different causes of bleeding. Intestinal wall it contains lot of blood vessels and if the inner lining membrane is damaged to some reason it will bleed. If there is a growth like a cancer and all it can bleed. In the lower anal canal, in the rectum there are certain vascular structures especially in the anal canal. Hemorrhoidal tissues will be there which are made of blood vessels. So if they rupture they bleed or if there is a cut like fissure it can bleed from there. There is something called polyp which they can bleed. There are some ulcers in the intestines, they can bleed. So any injury to that area can cause bleeding . So the treatment of bleeding apart from giving some tablets to reduce bleeding, general tablets is more important that we have to recognize what is the cause of bleeding, what is the source of bleeding and treat the source or cause depending on the situation. Many times one may require surgical procedures to take care of that bleeding.
