Our suspension case study delves into the complex interplay between suspension modifications and true performance outcomes.

With the help of RACE Software’s cloud multibody simulation (MBS) software, we've examined the front suspension performance of a modern European hatchback. Our goal? To uncover the true impact of lowering the ride height by 50mm and widening the track width by 40mm.

Automotive/motorsport industry grade suspension kinematics and compliance (K&C) analysis was used to compare the standard car's suspension performance with that of the modified car.

While lowering the center of gravity and widening the track width might enhance the visual appeal, there's much more to consider. Our case study highlights that suspension modifications require a holistic approach for a truly optimised performance transformation. Although the often quoted benefits of a reduced centre of gravity and a wider track do indeed hold true, it has been shown that this is only part of the overall picture. Most of the hidden changes are directionally opposite to what is needed to improve the driving performance of the car.
