In this video I sit down with ‪@TheHobbyistMiner‬ and discuss if you should get into ASIC mining in 2022. We are both very dedicated GPU miners, but in this video we discuss if ASIC mining might be something to get into in 2022. With ASIC mining, you can mine coins that normally wouldn't be mineable with GPUs, like Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Kadena, Litecoin etc. The pro's of ASIC mining vs GPU mining include that ASIC mining profitability will not be affected by Ethereums merge into proof of stake. ASIC mining profitability is solely dictated by the coin price of the coin your ASIC can mine (like Bitcoin or Dogecoin), your power cost and the efficiency of the actual ASIC you have in relation to the network difficulty of the coin. The con's are mainly that once your ASIC becomes unprofitable, there is nothing you can do, you can't mine a different coin algorithm and no one is going to want to buy the ASIC off you second hand since it's not profitable. The pro's of GPU mining is of course that you can swap between different coins and that you can still sell your GPUs to other people even if mining becomes unprofitable. The big con for GPU mining currently is the big unknown of what will happen to GPU mining after ETH 2.0 in terms of mining profitability.
