WordPress post revisions functionality allows you to revert back to previous versions of a page or post. Every time you make an update to a post or page the old version is saved as a revision. Your site saves revisions to posts, pages and custom post types.

To find the post revisions just open any post or page in the WordPress editor.

Then click on Screen Options in the top right. Make sure that the Revisions checkbox is checked.

Once that's done, scroll down until you find the Revisions metabox.

You will probably see a list of entries in the Revisions metabox. The very first one is the current, live page. Every entry below that is an older version of the post. Click on the link to the right of any of them in order to open up the revision comparison page.

On the left side you'll be shown the older version. The new version on the right.

Highlights in red are things the revision editor thinks were removed. Highlighted in green is all the content the editor things is new.

In comparing two different entries the editor is "okay" at best. So make sure you read through the revisions rather than relying on the color coding.

You can easily restore a revision by clicking on the Restore Revision button in the top right.

There is also a scroll bar at the top of the page that you can use to scroll through revisions.

I like to have at least 3 or 5 revisions available for review. Having more than that can slow down your site a lot.

Each revision is stored in the database. If each of your pages and posts have 10 revisions, that is a lot of space taken up. You can WordPress remove extra revisions using code in the wp-config.php file or using a plugin.

I have tutorials for both, which you can find here:

WordPress delete post revisions via plugin:    • Revision Control Using A Simple WordP...
