Most men over 40 are carrying too much body fat and not nearly enough muscle.

You already know that.

You don’t know is why you’re still stuck.

Here’s what I learned the hard way at 40

You can eat “clean” all day, but if your calorie targets are off, you will either stall or gain.

The goal isn’t just weight loss. You want to look better, moving better, and feeling better.

👉 Here’s how I stay in shape at 40 and how I coach my clients to do the same:

1. Protein leads the way.
Aim for roughly one gram per pound of ideal bodyweight. At this age you need it more, not less. It helps you build and preserve the muscle you keep losing every year.

2. Keep your calorie deficit small.
If you cut calories too hard, your body shuts down progress. Drop them by about 10-15%. Slow and steady works better for men in their 40s.

3. Use your carbs.
Carbs help you train harder and recover faster. Have some before your workout (at least 30g) and again after. You will look fuller and perform better.

4. Train to build your body, not just burn calories.
The gym is not punishment. Focus on quality reps and sets that actually challenge you.
A few hard sets beat a dozen lazy ones every time.

5. Recover like it matters.
If you’re sleeping less than seven hours, your strength, hormones, and fat loss will take a hit.
Recovery is part of your training.

6. Check your bloodwork.
Your hormones drive everything. If something is off, no amount of grinding will fix it.
Stop guessing and get real data from your doctor.

7. Eat real food first.
Chicken, Beef, eggs, Greek yogurt, salmon. These build your muscles and strength.
