FLNG - An Overview [Technip Brief]

Описание к видео FLNG - An Overview [Technip Brief]

Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) is a revolutionary technology that allows the production, liquefaction, storage, and offloading of natural gas at sea. By enabling gas production directly from offshore fields, FLNG eliminates the need for long pipelines to onshore facilities, reducing costs and environmental impact.

Key Components:

Floating Production Facility:
The FLNG vessel houses all necessary equipment for extracting, liquefying, and storing natural gas.
Gas is processed and cooled to approximately -162°C to convert it to liquid form, facilitating storage and transport.

Storage and Offloading:
The liquefied gas is stored in cryogenic tanks onboard the vessel.
The LNG is periodically offloaded to LNG carriers for distribution to global markets.

Mobility & Versatility:
Unlike traditional LNG infrastructure, FLNG units can be relocated to different offshore gas fields.
This mobility is particularly useful for developing smaller or remote gas fields that would not be economically viable with traditional onshore LNG infrastructure.

Benefits of FLNG:

Cost Efficiency:
Reduces the need for extensive pipelines and onshore processing facilities.
Shortens project development timelines and lowers capital expenditures.

Environmental Impact:
FLNG facilities have a smaller environmental footprint compared to traditional onshore LNG plants.
By operating offshore, they avoid significant land use and reduce the environmental risks associated with pipelines.

Access to Remote Fields:
FLNG enables the exploitation of previously stranded gas fields located far from shore.
Expands access to gas reserves that were considered too difficult or expensive to develop.

Major Projects:
Prelude FLNG (Australia): Operated by Shell, it is one of the largest FLNG vessels, producing up to 3.6 million tonnes of LNG per year.

Coral South FLNG (Mozambique): Managed by ENI, this project is significant for gas extraction from Mozambique’s deepwater fields.
