Stand-Up Paddleboard Program

Date: September 18
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Participants: International Middle School students (Teams A, B, C)
Instructors: 3 SUP Instructors
Location: Main paddle zone (with backup sheltered spot if strong winds)

Program Overview

This program is designed to introduce middle school students to stand-up paddleboarding in a safe and fun environment. Students will learn basic safety rules, paddling techniques, and recovery skills through four structured sessions. Each team (A, B, C) will rotate under the guidance of experienced instructors.

Safety & Setup

8:30 a.m. – Instructors arrive, set up equipment, check weather conditions.

If winds are strong, move to the sheltered bay where the mountain blocks the wind.

All participants attend an indoor safety briefing before going on the water.

Water safety rules (swimming = #1 safety rule).

Demonstration of SUP recovery (self-rescue).

Instructions on when and where to stand up (only in safe/shallow water).

Emphasis on teamwork, listening to instructors, and always watching teachers for signals.

Time Schedule
Morning

9:00 – 9:30 a.m. – Registration, team grouping (A, B, C).

9:30 – 10:00 a.m. – Indoor Safety Briefing & Stretching.

10:00 – 11:00 a.m. – Session 1 (Team A, B, C rotate with instructors).

11:10 – 12:10 p.m. – Session 2 (rotation continues).

Midday

12:20 – 1:20 p.m. – Lunch & rest break.

Afternoon

1:30 – 2:30 p.m. – Session 3 (rotation continues).

2:40 – 3:40 p.m. – Session 4 (final rotation).

3:40 – 4:00 p.m. – Wrap-up, equipment return, group reflection.

Session Structure (per team)

Each 1-hour session includes:

Warm-up & Stretching (10 min)

On-land practice & gear setup (10 min)

Paddles adjusted, boards prepared, safety checks.

On-water activity (30 min)

Sitting & paddling practice.

Standing up in shallow water.

Basic turns and teamwork paddling.

Self-rescue and recovery practice.

Cool down & team feedback (10 min)

Instructor Roles

Each instructor is responsible for one team (A, B, or C) throughout the day.

Instructors must:

Monitor weather/water conditions.

Ensure students stay in safe zones.

Emphasize recovery skills before moving to deeper water.

Rotate activities to keep sessions engaging and safe.
