Hiking 4 Days in the Picos de Europa Spain (Inspired by Kraig Adams)

This was our 4 day hike in the Picos de Europa, wich was at first planned as a 10 day hike on a much bigger loop but as soon as we arrived we realized that the mountains were much steeper and more difficult to climb then we expected. Also there was still a lot of snow in the higher altitudes (at the end of May) so we had to change plans. We ended up with a much shorter and easier track than we planed for and even once got lost on the track so we needed to hike down all the way in the valley. I wouldn't recommend you should do the exact loop as we did but I'll put the links for the GPS files down below if you are interested in planning your Picos de Europa hike. From Cain de Valdeon we took a Taxi to Cordinanes de Valdeon wich costs about 10€ and saved us a lot of time. Also the cable car at Fuente De costs about 16€ for two persons one way. Originally we didn't wanted to go down all the way to Fuente De but we experienced a lot of rain and bad conditions on our way from the Refugio Collado de Jeremoso so we missed our left turn and had to climb down wich was a pain in the ass. You will probably just take another route wich will bring you to the top of the cable car, without loosing altitude.

This mountain area, located very close to the atlantic coast is called Picos de Europa, because when the fisherman came back from the sea, this high peaks were the first thing they saw. Its hard to describe but the mountains in the Picos are so sharp and steep, that sometimes you just can not image, where the track could possibly go up the mountains. It's just a fascinating landscape to look at and I can only recommend you go check it out for yourself! (I first thought they were called Picos, because it was such a little mountain range but quite the opposite is the case). Also the weather in the Picos, hence the short distance to the ocean is very unpredictable with a lot of clouds and rain.
