This week I felt a longing for my hometown Paris and decided to stitch an idyllic street scene with some charming French music as company. Born and raised in Paris I've crossed Rue Furstemberg an endless amount of times, even making detours just to walk on the streets around.

The street has been featured in several big movies and is considered by many as one of the most beautiful in the city. I think it helps also that it's located in the 6th arrondissement, which is already an incredible quarter to stroll around on your next visit to Paris.

I love how hand embroidery gives the freedom to create any type of design. For architectural sceneries like this pattern, it's just about reducing the number of strands and imagine your floss to be your ink.

Lastly, I've embroidered this design on a dark blue cotton canvas to imagine a night scene (I mostly wandered around at night in my teens... Paris is like a different place at night and it can feel both scary but very peaceful in the same time!).

Even though I used a dark fabric, you can easily switch for a light one. If you do take a white fabric, just don't forget to also change to a dark embroidery floss for the contours to create the contrasting effect. The filled out surfaces can still be stitched with the same colour.
