When Murfreesboro Police Officer Samuel Lopez responded to a Loose Animal Call for Service, he didn’t expect to spend nearly two hours on scene — but what happened next is something you’ll never forget.

He found an injured dog lying on the side of the road, scared and alone. Instead of just calling animal control and moving on, Officer Lopez stayed. He spoon-fed the pup his own lunch and gave him water from his thermal bottle.

Officer Lopez and his wife are unable to have children — and because of that, he’s developed a deep compassion for dogs. To him, they’re more than pets. They’re family. His actions that day brought new meaning to the phrase, “man’s best friend.”
