This is Las Vegas Vlog Part 7 from our August 2024 trip, and it’s a proper mix of off-Strip exploring, a few new stops back in town, and then finishing the night with one of the best views we’ve had in Vegas.

We start the day early and head out by car to Nelson Ghost Town, a “managed” ghost town that still feels like stepping back in time. We also do the Eldorado Canyon gold mine tour, which is well worth it if you want something different from the Strip. The tour goes underground into the mine itself, with loads of history from the 1860s, and our guide is genuinely brilliant. One of the most memorable parts is when the lights go off and you get a real sense of what total darkness underground feels like.
In the vlog, we also talk through why we chose to hire a car instead of booking a third-party tour. If you’re comfortable driving, it can work out much cheaper than organised trips, especially for something like this where you’re basically going there and back in a day.
After the mine and ghost town, we head down towards the Colorado River, then stop at **Durango Casino & Resort for lunch to break the day up. We try burgers, onion rings, a chilli dog, and one of those orange creamsicle float-style drinks, plus a quick look around the resort. It’s got a clean, modern feel and it’s a nice change of pace if you’ve done the Strip to death.
From there it’s a very real-life stop at Walmart to stock up on essentials for the last few days. It’s chaotic, huge, and somehow always turns into a trolley full of “we don’t need this but we want it”.
Back on the Strip, there’s a mix of slot play at Mandalay Bay and Luxor, a dinner stop at Public House, and then we finish the night at Skyfall Lounge at Delano. The views up there are unreal, especially around sunset, and you can step outside for open-air photos with the Strip laid out in front of you. We even catch a view of the Tropicana demolition from up there, which is a bit surreal.
This vlog is a good one if you’re looking for Las Vegas off-Strip day trip ideas, want to see what the Nelson Ghost Town and Eldorado Mine tour is like, or you just fancy a change from casino-only Vegas.
Thanks for watching, and if you’ve been following the series, we really appreciate it. Part 8 is up next with pool time, Din Tai Fung, and Atomic Saloon.
