“Billy and the F Catalogue” a photographic archival film documentation of Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory.

Billy Name, Warhol’s Silver Factory photographer and foreman, left us in the late summer of 2016. Billy had already long been on that astral plane that few of us reach in one lifetime, and we feel quite privileged to have been in his splendid company. He was probably closer to Andy than anyone else in those days. Andy gave Billy his first camera, and told him to "Take the pictures for me."

Randy Kennedy of the New York Times encapsulated Billy's importance to Warhol in the following blurb: “Billy Name, born William Linich Jr. in 1940, not only captured Andy Warhol’s retinue of ‘Superstars’ but also documented the larger scene in his thousands of moody, high-contrast black and white photographs.”

Thanks to Billy and many of those thousands of photographs, we were able to showcase nearly his entire body of work, along with a three-hour in-depth interview with him for our television documentary series, ‘Andy Warhol’s Factory People’.

The raw film footage in “Billy and the F Factory” has rarely been seen, and is taken from another fascinating interview he gave us. Here it is, narrating and talking about the ‘F Catalogue. Factory Fotos (sic) by Billy Name’.

The basic appeal of this 68 minute archival film is two-fold: To allow the photographer to explain his documentary photo work as he shows it, and to expose some of the least-known and most interesting ‘facts of life’ about the Silver Factory era directly from the only one who actually lived there 24 hours a day.
