We are back in California with another film from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Today we are in San José at the heart of Silicon Valley. This area houses some of the most valuable tech companies in the world, such as Apple, Google, Facebook. Now, if you expect a modern transportation system here, you could not be farther from the truth.

The main railway corridor through Silicon Valley is operated by Caltrain, an antiquated, heavy and noisy diesel railway line, which takes 1.5 hours to connect San José and San Francisco via the peninsula.

BART (which I showed previously in some other films) was supposed to be built all the way around the bay, and thus could have been a modern alternative to Caltrain, but some of the involved counties thought that it would be a better idea to build roads and expressways, instead.

This film is shot at and around San José Diridon station. The station is in the middle of nowhere and it is mostly the southern terminus of the Caltrain route (only three trains per day travel a few stations further south to Gilroy). Besides Caltrain, the station is also served by Amtrak trains and the Altamont Corridor Express (ACE), however, the latter only runs on weekdays.

Besides heavy rail, this film also features a few scenes of VTA Light Rail, the local tram system of San José.
