I’ve divided the abacus practice books into several levels.

Once students understand the basics in (#B)
—how the abacus works and how the beads move—
they should continue practicing and mastering (#C).

When children are working on #B and I suddenly give them a #C sheet,
they’re a bit startled at first, but then their sense of challenge kicks in.
They start trying to solve it on their own.

Instead of doing the same level endlessly,
introducing the next step once in a while keeps things interesting.
They think more, explore on their own, and actually enjoy it.

Using a timer also adds a fun twist.

Anything repetitive can easily become boring,
so adding small variations helps keep the experience fresh.
Those little moments of enjoyment eventually help build steady study habits.
