EDO IDP's : New stare of life, as they seeks items & infrastructural support.


The Uhougua Internally Displaced Persons’ Camp in Benin, Edo State, says less than 1, 500 has now grown to over 4,000 and some of them has gained admission to high institutions.

The Coordinator of the camp, Mr Solomon Folorunsho, made this known to our correspondent jimoh ogirima  in Benin.

Mr Solomon Folorunsho, said the population of displaced persons at the camp, which use to be less than 1, 500 has now grown to over 4, 000, with improved structures, as well as the general environment. 

He maintained that this is courtesy of the goodwill some good-natured people, non-governmental organisations, the Edo State government, lawmakers and several others.

He said Despite the generous donations from the public, the facility needs international attention as the administrator said at times they have to do trade by batter to get sufficient food to keep the inmates alive.

On her part the supervisor of the camp mrs. Evelin Omogie expressed delight that the children have really improved in their education, and some have even taken over the leadership of their various classes from their southern counterparts, which they met in the camp. 

She said they cook 15 bags of Rice per meal everyday and 5 bags of Garri and ask for more from all stakeholders.

Some of the children who could not hide thier joy said they were just helpless, but God helped them and  found thier way to Edo IDPs, Now they are schooling and eating. 

They added that they  are enjoying the place, saying  During the crisis, they ran to Edo state.

They added that Some of thier brothers and sisters are in Maiduguri and Cameroun.

They however appeal to the government to come to thier aid in terms of food items, drugs and clothing among others.

You will recall that since the camp came into existence, some of the displaced persons have gained admission into tertiary institutions across the country, but the camp still needs skills acquisition centres to cater for the hundreds that may not be disposed to tertiary education.
