TYPES OF COMMUNICATION :-

AGGRESSIVE COMMUNICATION

Aggressive: someone who speaks or acts as if he/she is dominant, more powerful or superior.

Verbal signs:

•Yells (shouts)

•Threatens

•Gives orders

•Asks questions to pressure

•Uses the word "I" often

•Calls people names

Non verbal signs:

Glares

Aggressive hand gestures

•Face looks angry

Stomps foot

Bangs fists on table

How would you react to an aggressive behaviour ????

Does it affect relationships?

Consequences:

Builds resentment

Shows lack of respect

Shows lack of co-operation

Loses confidence

PASSIVE COMMUNICATION -

1. Avoids saying directly what he/ she thinks or wants.

2. Often involves uncomfortable body language.

3. Person does not share his or her wants, needs & desires.

4. Hide his/her opinion and feelings.

Verbal signs:

•Apologizes for self.

•Does not give opinions.

•Does not disagree.

•Gives in easily.

Non verbal signs:

Makes nervous gestures with hands.

Speaks softly or mumbles.

Looks down/ away (avoid eye contact).

Does it affect relationships?

Consequences:

•Makes it difficult to build a good relationship

•Builds resentment

•Shows lack of respect for self and/or others

ASSERTIVE COMMUNICATION -

Assertiveness: Speaking directly, honestly and respectfully.

Verbal signs:

Gives opinion without forcing people to accept them.

Uses a calm voice.

Asks questions to understand.

Non verbal signs:

Listens as well as talks.

Maintains comfortable eye contact.

Justifies ideas with facts.

3 parts to an assertive statement:

Describe what the person did

Tell why it is a problem or its annoying you

Tell what you want the person to do

•Assertiveness can help you manage stress and anger.

• It helps to express yourself effectively and stand up for your point of view.

•Assertiveness improves self-esteem and earns other's respect.

• It helps to managing emotions, language, etiquettes, mannerism & team work.
