Don't question why subterrane, it just feels like a nice word, during the assembling of all of this i changed the word i had planed, before it was "Grotto" because that's also a word that tingles my brain when it's read, but it felt a bit out of place so here we go, the good thing is that it's not present in the video at all so if there's suddenly a way better fit to describe this music in 1 word i will change it.
Anyway, it speaks for itself, this music plays in locations whose common trait is being hidden underground, now a lot of other dungeons are, to put an example the skeleton dungeon, Korriander, the bwork and goblin dungeons, the black and white rats, and arguably most of them if you wanna think about how all those rooms would fit in the small building you see from the outside, but the dungeons that use the subterrane music have it as a core part of their identity, or at least it has more weight than their identity as monsters.
Larvae, Scaraleaves and Wabbits are critters whose homes are typically underground (doesn't apply for the Ecafleas but they're giant and in a cat dimension so who knows what that is really), even the Wa wabbit castle is underground, but uses the carefree music as it's emphasized that they're cute bunnies rather than them also being good tunnelers, which is the theme of the warren, Wabbits using digging machinery to hide their dofus.
the Blacksmiths can perfectly make tunnels themselves, the Mastodon cemetery creatures are surrounded by fossils and Crocabulia just decided to make her lair in the basement of the main building of the village they destroyed, Stubbyobs are just known to live inside mountains so this is a given for them.
Now for the other half of these places it's interesting, because it's mostly Frigost, in fact it's tied with the Mysterious music in uses both having 6, while Korriander, King Dazahk and Sylargh get a different one each.
They are mostly caves, Royal Pingwin's Excavation, Snowfoux Den, Sakai Mine and Missiz Freezz's Frostforge are ice caves, Obsidemon's Hypogeum is a lava cave, Bearbarian antichamber is a... Honey cave.
Kolossos' Caverns, Korriander's Lair and King Dazahk's Brewery are also caves but use other music, most of Frigost happens underground and i can understand why after they got doomed to eternal winter, i love this island.
By the way, i don't have footage for the Larva dungeon's boss because it's one of those co-op only dungeons, you need at least a second person to pull a lever with you to advance and by the time i rushed to record this there weren't any friends around to help so i just have this because i wasn't expecting to record the rooms either, but at least there's a larva doing the worm in the few seconds i got.
