There is a common saying in Nigeria that “men are polygamous by nature”. By this saying, men are allowed to openly take on mistresses and cheat on their wives with reckless abandon. But only a few have had to bite their hands in regret. One such person is Tunde Ayeni, the former Chairman of the defunct Skye Bank.
Between 2023 and 2025, the successful lawyer, now banking tycoon, was embroiled in a widely publicised scandal involving his young, long-time mistress, Adaobi Alagwu. During this period, Tunde Ayeni dragged Adaobi to court, claiming she pinned someone else's child on him and tried to use the paternity fraud to dig his gold. But this is still an understatement. According to the 58-year-old investor, Adaobi teamed up with her mother to box him into a fraudulent marriage and take over his properties and estate.
Surprisingly, while some men will wallow in shame, Ayeni rose to the occasion to not only claim his property back but prove to the world that he was never the father of Adaobi’s child. This move almost cost the businessman his reputation and his family. However, it appears that Tunde Ayeni ultimately prevailed, albeit with some regrets. In a recent interview, the businessman opened up that his relationship with his mistress was his single biggest regret in life. Ayeni further admonished men to avoid the type of relationship he had with Adaobi Alagwu, explaining that these “sorts of relationships come with short moments of pleasure, but with huge devastating consequences.”
