CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Gyms in Ohio have officially been given the green light to open their doors to allow members to work out again, but, of course, it does come with some guidelines.

At the Crunch Fitness in Oakley, as soon as you walk through the door, you’ll get your temperature checked.

Gyms must have sanitation areas throughout the gym, and gym equipment needs to be spaced out at least six feet apart. Lockers must also follow social distancing requirements.

“Every hour, all of our staff is going around cleaning everything that is a touch-surface, meaning the machines, the handles on the machines, seats, things like that,” said Michael Stamper, the general manager of Crunch Oakley, said. “Everything is organized, the traffic. That way, we can get in and out and everybody safe. We have sanitation stations lined up throughout the gym. We have three of those.”

Stamper said staff prepped all last week to make sure the gym was clean for members to return, and frequent cleanings will continue.

“Everybody has been coming in, jumping for joy, skipping to the machines. They’re really excited,” Stamper said. “We’ve had a lot of people. There was a line out the door at 5 a.m.”

Staff is required to wear masks, and while it’s not required for members to wear them, Local 12 found some still chose to wear theirs.

“I’m wearing my mask today. I’m doing my part for the world, especially at a gym where bacteria is pretty much everywhere. Just trying to help keep it clean keep it open,” member Jonathan Harney said.

Overall, members said they’re grateful for the extra safety precautions and are eager to get back to their routine.

“Definitely excited to be back. It’s been two long months of just running all the time, so I’m definitely out of shape, that’s for sure,” Kasey Lucas said.

The state is also recommending to limit the use of fans inside gyms and recommends opening doors or windows.

Other reopenings as of May 26 include community pools, non-contact or low-contact athletic activities, bowling alleys, mini-golf courses and batting cages.
