Even in the best of times, it can be challenging for correctional facilities to align with and stay in compliance with IDEA. This session will show the collaboration between OSEP, the US Department of Justice, the Michigan Department of Education, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Michigan will discuss how it became aware of a Statewide problem involving youth with IEPs held in county jails and the actions taken to address the problem, and Pennsylvania will discuss its process for ensuring juveniles who are incarcerated receive a FAPE, as well as for monitoring for compliance with IDEA.
