With short-term rentals and peer-to-peer hosting sites like Airbnb skyrocketing in popularity, hosts have an opportunity to make some serious cash when big events like the Super Bowl come into town.

In this video, we will talk through how much Airbnb hosts made during Super Bowl weekend in 2020, and how much of this is projected to go to Airbnb's bottom line.

Last year in Atlanta, it was reported that Airbnb hosts in Georgia made a collective $3.5 million in supplemental income during the Super Bowl. That ended up being an extra $700 per host, which can make a world of difference financially, especially when you take into account this was made over a period of 2-3 days.

While the numbers are still being finalized for this year, it's calculated that Miami hosts will have made a collective $26 MILLION over Super Bowl weekend. Granted, this is all in and not supplemental so it's hard to compare to the Atlanta numbers, but this is still huge.

Homes in great locations were able to list and book their place for 5X their normal going rate. While not everyone could capitalize on that, many hosts were able to see returns 2 to 5 times what they normally would have made. There were even luxury villas listed and booked for $40,000 PER NIGHT! Talk about big bucks!

However, Airbnb hosting definitely works best when you are consistent and not trying to capitalize on one big event. Most cities require you to get licenses and registered as a short-term rental host, and those registration fees can be as high as $350! This would seriously eat into your profits if you weren't planning on renting out your property consistently.
