Tristan, Prelude & Liebestod by Furtwängler, Berlin Philharmonic 1942. With the recording of Wagner’s Tristan, Prelude and Liebestod I present the first of a series of Furtwängler recordings made by the Reichsrundfunkgesellschaft (RRG) between 1942 and 1944. They were broadcasted in the nineteen-nineties from first generation analogue and digital copies that were made without any changes of the original tapes.
So there is no polishing of the historical material, no use of noise reduction, equalizers etc. as normally applied in the remastering process of a CD production. Therefore you might hear a noisier sound than you are used to with historical CDs. There are clicks and other flaws from time to time that result from the original tape or from receiving FM broadcast.
Despite of all these shortcomings you probably will notice the higher directness and liveliness of these uploads in comparison to CDs or to uploads that are based on CDs. Find out what gives you more excitement.
Both the RRG and the FM broadcasts of the 1990s used comression of dynamics. To get a somewhat realistic experience of the climaxes listen with high volume.

Please play the video with a high quality rate if you have a powerful computer and good loudspeakers. For this video I prefer 720p. (Click the cogwheel below the video and choose quality.) The sound quality is significantly higher than with standard 480p.
In case of weak computer and speakers you should stay at standard. It delivers a smoother sound but is less powerful and detailed.
For listening music videos from Youtube I recommend Google´s Chrome browser.
