Have you ever wondered how other people enjoy running while a mile feels like torture to you? Chances are you aren't running correctly!

Our 6 and 12-week Running Program is perfect for all levels. Whether you are just lacing up your shoes or have run a marathon, you will learn how to run stronger and longer, and dare we say you'll learn to love it!

Who are the coaches?
Coach Jen Mendez (left)has been a running coach for over 20 years and is a very accomplished runner both on and off the road. Coach Amy Rollins (right) is a competitive runner & long-time RFV local. Between the 2 of them, they have completed over 30 marathons, over 50 ½ marathons and countless other road and trail races of all distances; as well as 10 ultra-marathons (50K to 50 miles). Our expertise in running will guide you through an effective program to run your personal best!

What makes this running program different from other running programs?
Our 12-Week program builds through 3 different strength phases, each increasing in difficulty. We will start first 2 weeks with General Strength Phases, then move to Specific Strength and our final Phase is Explosive. All of these phases are mixed in with track work and some hill training. The 12-week program ends on July 13th (just in time to run the AVM half or full marathon!)

New this year is our 6-Week program! This program builds through the General and Specific Strength phases along with track work. The 6 week program starts with the 12-week program and ends on May 29th.

Why is it important to incorporate Strength in Running?
Running is a single legged and "rotational" sport. We work our upper body and lower body in a fluid pattern to propel our self forward. Runners Lats and Glutes tend to be weaker than they should be AND most people have one side of their body that is stronger and/or more stable than the other side. We need to develop a strong core, strong glutes/hips, good balance, and optimal range of motion to remain an injury-free runner.

We do a short warm-up run followed by running drills and the workout for the phase we are in. Our run is sometimes within the workout or after the strength workout. Each person's run distance will vary depending on what their goals & current running distance is.

Is this program open to beginner or advanced runners?
We are open to any person wanting to become a better runner. Whether your goal is to run a 5K without stopping, to run your fastest half marathon or just get a good workout, you will find a fit in this program. We can adjust your distance so you will build at your own personal pace.

Where will the long runs take place?
Our long runs will be on Sundays starting at 8am. We run along the Rio Grande trail; each week we start at a different meeting spot between Carbondale and Woody Creek. We always do an out-&-back run going upvalley first. We have some great meeting spots to enjoy the beauty of our valley along this trail.

What other benefits can I gain from this program?
We show you running techniques & tips to make you a better & more efficient runner; discuss nutrition on a broad basis; weekly running schedules to help you build your mileage; run with a group; feel in top shape for hiking, biking and other summer activities; improved core strength and posture; and more!!

Start date: Wednesday, April 20th. Every Wednesday & Sunday
Sunday long run starting at 8am along mid-valley portions of the Rio Grande trail (in late June/July... may move start time to 7am if its too hot)
Wednesday, we'll have 2 meet times at the Basalt High School track: 7:30am and 5:30pm

Cost: 6-week program is $195, 12-week program is $295. You can always choose to extend your 6-week program if you later decide you want to complete the full 12-weeks!
