Emulating Michel Sanchez's Tactical Masterclass at Girona | Two Tactical Variations
In this video, I present a detailed breakdown of my Football Manager tactic inspired by Michel Sanchez's Girona. Known for their fluid, attacking football, Girona has emerged as a team to watch in La Liga. I aimed to replicate Sanchez's tactical brilliance in two distinct versions: one for the 2023-2024 season and another adapted for the 2024-2025 season to account for key player departures and changes in roles.
Tactic 1: Girona 2023-2024
The first tactic mirrors Michel Sanchez's setup for the 2023-2024 season. With players like Dovbyk, Aleix Garcia, and Eric Garcia in pivotal roles, the team follows a high-pressing, possession-oriented style. Key features include:
Formation: [Insert formation, e.g., 4-3-3 or 3-4-2-1]
Team Instructions: Emphasis on short passing, maintaining width, and quick transitions.
Player Roles:
Dovbyk as the attacking spearhead.
Aleix Garcia orchestrating play as the creative hub.
Tsygankov functioning as an inside forward to cut inside and overload central areas.
Ivan Martin as an advanced playmaker on the left central midfield role.
This version faithfully replicates Girona’s dynamic and aesthetically pleasing gameplay during their standout season.
Tactic 2: Girona 2024-2025
The second version adapts to the departure of key players while maintaining the core principles of Sanchez's philosophy. Without Dovbyk, Aleix Garcia, and Eric Garcia, the tactic evolves:
Ivan Martin's role is now filled by Donny Van de Beek, playing as a Central Midfielder (Attack) instead of an Advanced Playmaker.
Tsygankov, formerly an inside forward, transitions to a traditional winger role, providing width and consistent crossing threats.
The other player roles and instructions remain unchanged, ensuring continuity and tactical identity.
This adaptation demonstrates how to maintain a team's ethos even when forced to replace critical personnel.
Testing the Tactic
I rigorously tested both variations with Girona and Arsenal, yielding remarkable performances in both cases. While I didn’t secure silverware, the results were spectacular:
Girona played stunning football, holding their own against Spain's biggest clubs.
Arsenal, with a similar tactical setup, thrived in the Premier League, consistently delivering breathtaking football.
No Transfers, No Excuses
To ensure authenticity, I made no transfers, using only the original squads for both seasons. This highlights how you can maximize the potential of your current players by fine-tuning roles and instructions to suit their strengths.
