Tensions rise as the European Parliament suspends work on its trade deal with the United States amid President Donald Trump’s renewed push to acquire Greenland and threats of tariffs on European allies. The Turnberry trade understanding, which aimed to reduce EU import duties on American goods including lobster, has stalled over concerns that the deal heavily favors the U.S. Lawmakers cited the U.S. retaining a 15% tariff rate while Europe would slash most duties. Committee chair Bernd Lange confirmed that U.S. tariff threats have effectively broken the deal, putting the agreement on hold indefinitely and raising the risk of escalating tensions with Washington.
