Kentucky Doe Bow hunt Before Arctic Storm Front

With the impending arctic blast sweeping across the country it was time to climb back into a Lone Wolf stand and take advantage of the anticipated deer movement.

Not only was it cold and getting colder but it was a red moon.

I parked in a new spot and quickly got dressed. While sneaking down the hill I had to be extra careful because I had to walk past a heavily used doe bedding area on the way in. When I stopped along the way to look at a scrape I caught the flicker of a deer's ear about 75 yards up ahead so I stopped.

6 does were already on their feet and moving in my general direction so I was stuck.

The clock was ticking so instead of attempting a stalk I took a gamble and decided to walk at a steady pace, knowing they'd see me. There's a home nearby and because the family regularly go for walks only a few hundred yards away I knew it wouldn't bump them out of the area entirely.

45 min after getting nestled into the stand I spotted 9 does meandering into the tiny 1/4 acre plot.

The sun was shining directly into my face and it was dead calm so I couldn’t shoot despite all 9 deer being within bow range.

A few minutes later a buck named “Beamer” sauntered into the plot and pushed all the does out. For the next 10 minutes this 21” wide 10 pointer with a busted up rack fed within easy range which was frustrating considering it was a doe mission lol.

After the plot cleared I waited for 30 minutes in case more deer would show and when they didn’t I put my Canon back in the Asio gear compact pack.

And of course that’s when I hear the tiniest of branches break behind me…

Because it would've been impossible to get the camcorder out and re-attached to the Fourth Arrow camera arm while the does were feeding within 20 yards I opted to just shoot.

The Hoyt VTM flung that Black Eagle arrow so fast through both her lungs that she didn’t know what hit her and she only ran 35 yards before tipping over.
