Janmashtami, Hindu festival celebrating the birth (janma) of the god Krishna on the eighth (ashtami) day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada (August–September). The number eight has another significance in the Krishna legend in that he is the eighth child of his mother, Devaki.
The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami. It is an annual celebration which marks the birth of Lord Krishna who is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the eighth “Avatar” of Lord Vishnu.
The Krishna Janmashtami Festival is known by several names such as Krishnashtami, Gokulashtami, Srikrishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanti, or simply as Janmashtami.

There are 8 forms of Laxmi. Laxmi is the consort of lord Vishnu. The persons who have got the blessings of these eight forms of Laxmi, he is considered a complete man. These eight forms of Laxmi are the eight Shaktis of Lord Vishnu. And in Krishna incarnation, these eight Shaktis became his eight wives. He is Pati (husband) of these eight forms. Pati means owner. That means - he is the owner of the completeness and infinity.

• Fruits like apple, pomegranate,Orange,banana, guava etc
• One coconut for neivedyam
• Betel leaves and nuts (Vetrilai paaku)
• Oil and ghee to light the lamp
• Rice flour and colors for drawing Rangoli and Krishna feet.

To offer
• A small cup of milk, curd, butter, Poha/Aval mixed with jaggery or sugar.
These offerings are must and should even if you don’t prepare sweets and snacks.
